Heart Touching....Pls Read And Advise ...Urgently !!!

Dear Readers,

One of our LADBLOWERS ( LArryDaviesBLOgWorldReaderS) sent this earlier today. She needs our help, in making a very important decision in her life.

Please advice her in the Comments Section. This was what she sent to us.

Dear LADBLOW,

I am in a tight situation and need your help. I am a 16 Year old young girl of African Origin. I hail from the eastern part Of Nigeria.I am the only daughter and first child amongst 5 boys . My mother is late ,but I have a step mother.I have no step siblings as my step mum has no children. My dad is currently ill and has been that way for 2 years now, and is some how incapacitated.

I recently gained admission into our Regional University - Imo State University to study Law. It has not been easy for us financially since my dad's illness. My step mother has been taking care of the home with her petty business.

Recently she talked my dad into marrying me to an old chief from our village that already has 5 wives. I do not want to marry the chief for so many reasons;

1. He is older than my father
2. He already has 5 wives and I do not want to be a 6th wife.
3.He is a native doctor, whilst I am a christian, Our faiths dont match.
4. I am a virgin and his tradition compels that I must be pregnant for him before he completes my marriage rites. He has done that with many girls my age and never married them since they all gave birth to girls. ( He is searching for a male child to continue in his profession).
5. I do not want to tie my destiny and that of my unborn children to a worthless tradition.
6. I want to finish my university before getting involved in a relationship or even getting married.

I can go on and on the list is endless, and most of all I do not love him and can never do.

I am confused as my dad is incapacitated and cannot do or say anything and my step mum is controlling things. She has promised to take me to the chief's house very soon. I do not know when. I am scared. I am thinking about running away. But if I run, who would look after my 5 younger brothers, since my step mum is wicked to us since she has no children. She forces even my youngest brother that is barely 3 years old to do hard jobs.

Please I need advise on what to do. The issue of marriage to this chief started immediately I announced that I have gotten admission to the University.

Please advise me on what to do.

Sincerely
Amaka O.

  1. Hi Amaka,
Its a dicey situation, but looking at the future is what matters.Marrying the old man does not guarantee your future nor that of your siblings.Running away is not advisable but it seems a better thought. Dont you have maternal relatives you could go to.Take your siblings there and try to pursue your education. That would have been a brighter way forward.

  3. Hello Amaka, im not conversant with the happenings in Nigeria or the existence of non profit organisations that help young girls like you.You are conversant with the internet, search for non profit groups that can help you and your brothers.Forceful marriage is illegal in any part of the world and definitely a violation of your fundamental Human Rights. You need external help from well meaning groups as I mentioned before. All the best.

  5. Life is not to be toyed with and neither should your happiness nor future. Getting pregnant for such a chief doesnt give you any assurances. That is a define No No. Look for elders within your community and present the situation before them. They should be able to help you .But one thing I know is that marrying that old man is not the best for you

  7. Anayo, you must be out of your mind.Did you not read the story. There is no guarantee with the chief. She would have to be pregnant for him and give birth to a boy.If she gives birth to a girl, she would be abandoned and her case would be worst than now with a child in this world without proper care. Its a bad advise to have her marry the chief. You are not a lady nor a reasonable person , other wise you wouldnt say such

Hi Girl,I have emailed the admin requesting for your contact information. I think there is a local Amnesty Group in Nigeria and I would try to contact them on your behalf. We hope we can help you soon enough.Whatever you do, do not marry the chief.

  11. Forget the chief, run a way , look for a boyfriend to take care of you , then you come back for your brothers.
